The Project
In this concept project in collaboration with BDP Quadrangle, we considered the question: Are our buildings equipped to respond to shocks and stressors, such as climate change related emergencies and pandemics?
The team drew upon in-house expertise in the areas of sustainability, resilience, wellness and design to explore how the built environment can be adapted to support individuals’ ability to bounce back. What are the hard and soft infrastructure considerations that are required for community resilience and successful sheltering-in-place when it comes to multi-unit residential buildings in particular?
Here's what we propose:

"Neighbourhood Nests: Fostering community resilience in multi-unit residential buildings" is a joint concept project from Human Space and BDP Quadrangle that looks to how design can support a community's ability to shelter-in-place and bounce back after an emergency, such as a climate change-related extreme weather event or a pandemic.
