The Project

Streets for All is Greater Manchester’s emerging approach to thinking about the role of streets in creating sustainable, healthy and resilient places. It is based on diverse needs of people and sense of place, rather than considering the movement of vehicles alone. The Streets for All project was defined by a series of collaborative workshops, bringing design team, client team and stakeholders into a productive workspace with shared objectives and expectations of outcomes. The result is an exemplar study that is being used to guide public realm and movement corridor design, integrating multiple transit modes from active travel (walking and cycling), to mass transit (bus and tram) and private and service vehicles, while creating an inclusive public realm that promotes an optimal experience for all people using the space.
