The Project

Human Space was part of the winning team selected from an international design competition to reimagine the aging St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts, which was the City of Toronto’s official centennial project.

Led by Hariri Pontarini Architects, the “Transparence” design concept is radically accessible, opening up the building to the community with a flexible design that will allow the main theatre space to rotate and accommodate between 600 to 1,000 seats.

Preliminary feedback sessions regarding the project indicated that Toronto has a need for affordable and accessible spaces where local artists can gather and create. Human Space provided the accessibility consulting services and worked closely with the architectural team to complete accessibility drawing reviews and consultation.
